Nelson Pool

Client: City of Burlington

Location: Burlington, Ontario

After being deemed structurally unsafe and closing its doors in 2015, the City of Burlington began planning the transformation of the Nelson Pool. Their first step: assembling a team of experts to ensure the brand-new community hotspot was designed and built to the highest standards.

Aqua Plans Aquatic Consultants was hired to complete the full design of the new, revamped swimming pool to not only replace the old design, but to improve on it. Nelson Pool reopened to the public in 2017 and features a 50M, 8-lane competition pool, along with a family friendly beach entry area, spray features, a full perimeter overflow recirculation system, climbing wall and dual diving boards.

“It gives me great pleasure to recommend Aqua Plans following the completion of the newly rebuilt outdoor Nelson Pool and Splash Pad. Their experience in the aquatic industry and their commitment to the City of Burlington was critical to the scope, cost and schedule of this project. This outdoor facility required a one year completion schedule and needed to be designed to accommodate a new mechanical pool filtration, zero depth entrance, a competitive concrete pool with new diving boards and platforms, a climbing wall that complied with all legal requirements stated in the Ontario Public Pool Regulations, FINA standards as well as the Burlington’s Accessibility Design Standards. This was a challenge that was accepted by Aqua Plans and their assistance to the design and construction of this project was essential to our success. It is with high regards that I recommend Aqua Plans for future endeavors.”
