Client: PMA Landscape Architects Ltd., City of Toronto
Location: Scarborough, Ontario
The redevelopment of the L’Amoreaux Kidstown Water Park—one of Toronto’s most popular outdoor destinations for preschool and grade school children, and the City’s only municipally owned and operated water park—is now underway. The revitalization of this beloved community landmark will ensure it remains a safe, and accessible destination for families to enjoy for many summers to come.
Working alongside PMA Landscape Architects Ltd., Aqua Plans Aquatic Consultants Inc. is providing full aquatic design and engineering services for the project. The redevelopment will feature a 4,300 sq. ft. toddler pool, a 2,300 sq. ft. leisure pool, a runout waterslide built into the hillside, a waterfall play area, and an expansive 7,000 sq. ft. Vortex splash pad.
The toddler pool will include perimeter overflow design, beach entry, an accessibility ramp, spray features, and a bench area, with a maximum water depth of 0.75 metres. The leisure pool will also feature a perimeter overflow system, a second large waterslide, and a shallow leisure area with a maximum depth of 1.2 metres.
The splash pad will operate on a recirculating system and include a variety of water play zones: a senior section with a bucket dump, custom spray toys, and water shooters; a junior section with interactive play features; and multiple cognitive play areas designed to encourage exploration and fun.
