South Queens Outdoor Pool

Client: MJMA Architecture & Design and TEAL Architects

Location: Liverpool, Nova Scotia

Construction is underway in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, for the new South Queens Outdoor Pool, located on the grounds of the Queens Place Emera Centre. The new pool replaces the aging Milton Centennial Pool, which had exceeded its expected lifespan by more than two decades and was closed in 2023 due to structural damage caused by local flooding.

Aqua Plans Aquatic Consultants Inc. provided the full design and engineering for the new pool, working alongside MJMA Architecture & Design and TEAL Architects. The facility will feature a 6-lane, 25-meter swim competition area and a large, fully accessible beach entry, ensuring inclusive use for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

The pool is part of a vibrant new outdoor courtyard located at the southern corner of the Queens Place Emera Centre property. The courtyard is framed to the west by a pavilion housing changerooms, lifeguards’ offices, and service areas, while a covered breezeway along the north side connects the pavilion to the main building.

The new South Queens Outdoor Pool will be a summertime community hub, providing safe, accessible, inclusive and durable recreation for locals and visitors alike. The facility will accommodate regional swimming competitions, community leisure swims, and everyday fitness activities, enhancing both the cultural and economic vitality of Liverpool.
